Equipment Spotlight: Pipe & Joint Fusion Equipment

Pipe and joint fusion equipment by McElroy Mfg., Ritmo America, Integrity Fusion Products, GF Piping Systems and IPEX.

McElroy Mfg.
McElroy’s In-Ditch 48 brings fusion capability to tight work spaces using 16-inch OD to 48-inch OD pipe. Features include a top-loading heater and facer with removable jaws and clamp cylinders. A four-jaw carriage converts to a three-jaw configuration making it possible to fuse short pipe stubs. The In-Ditch 48 has 3,000 psi maximum pressure to serve various in-ditch applications. 918.836.8611,

GF Piping Systems
GF Piping Systems offers a wide range of hand and mechanical guided fusion machines – also for the field-use. The pipe end, fitting socket and heating tools correspond in such a way that the necessary joining pressure is attained during joining, resulting in a homogeneous joint. As with Socket Fusion Machines, in this form of fusion joining, which requires heating tools, the pipe end is inserted into the socket of the fitting; no additional material is used. The pipe end and fitting socket are heated to fusion temperature using a heating bush and a heating spigot, respectively, and are then pushed together.

Friatec couplings from IPEX Inc. feature a unique, exposed coil design that provides a seal stronger than any other electrofusion system on the market. This is achieved for two reasons: the heat, created by the electrical current passing through the exposed coil of the Friatec coupling, is transferred directly to the PE pipe, and the coil protrudes from the interior surface of the coupling. When the pipe is heated, the coil sinks into it creating a much stronger bond. As a result of this process, every joint will be sealed precisely to specification, automatically, every time, minimizing the risk of human error. Because every joint is as strong as the pipe itself, the Friatec Electrofusion system is ideal for horizontal direct drilling and other trenchless applications. 866.473.9462,
