In Memoriam: Gene Suhr

Gene Suhr, a former director of water and wastewater engineering for CH2M HILL, died Jan. 27 in Vancouver, WA, surrounded by his family. He was 79.

Suhr joined CH2M HILL in 1963 and over a career that spanned more than 35 years with the firm, he provided key leadership in procuring and delivering some of the firm’s landmark water and wastewater projects, served with distinction as a project manager, mentored a generation of new staff, and helped bring prominence to CH2M HILL.

As a project manager, and as a member of CH2M HILL’s board of directors for 16 years, Suhr was a key force in developing innovative, successful, and state-of-the-art water and wastewater facilities across the globe and growing the firm’s capabilities into one of the top water and wastewater firms as ranked by Engineering News-Record.

Suhr received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in sanitary engineering from Harvard University. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons Stephen and Christopher; sister, Jeannette Wedge; and one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother James.
