RehabZone Goes ‘Live’
For the first time in its nine-year history, demonstrations will be part of the RehabZone at the 2010 UCT Underground Construction Technology International Conference & Exhibition, better known simply as UCT.
UCT 2010 will make its first visit to Florida on Jan. 19-21 at the waterfront Tampa Convention Center. The RehabZone has become an integral part of the UCT exhibition.
The RehabZone is about educating the industry regarding rehabilitating our nation’s underground infrastructure, said Larry Keist, 2010 RehabZone chairman.
“We are gearing up to provide the most comprehensive ever presentation of no dig rehabilitation technology,” Keist pointed out. “Certainly the demonstrations bring a new dimension to the ’Zone, and industry experts bring education to the forefront of the RehabZone experience.”
The new Live Technology Arena in the RehabZone will provide bleacher seating for live technology demonstrations. Topics include simultaneous main/lateral CIPP (cured in place pipe) lining, chemical grout injection, CCTV laser profiling, small diameter pipe CIPP lining, pipeline inspection using zoom technology, laboratory testing of CIPP, mechanical joint sealing, robotic cutting for pipelining and automated wireless pipeline Inspection.
Demonstrations are scheduled at specific times throughout the conference.
Sponsored by NASSCO (National Association Of Sewer Service Companies), the RehabZone’s unique non selling approach contains exhibits presenting generic information about water and sewer rehabilitation technologies without referencing product brands. It is the only event of its kind in the industry and has been a part of UCT since 2002.
What to expect
Keist describes what attendees can look forward to experiencing in the 2010 ’Zone:
“On entering the RehabZone,” he said, “visitors walk under a live CIPP liner being air inverted through a 4 inch glass pipe with multiple 90 degree fittings, a demonstration of how CIPP is inverted, advancing the liner through a pipe from only one access point. Next is the museum quality Pima County, Arizona Historic Sewer and Pipe Artifacts Exhibit documenting the history of pipes, tools, and equipment of the past. Visitors then can make stops at stations staffed by experts that explain various rehabilitation technologies.”
Those stations include joint and seal repairs, water main lining, lateral lining, grouting, root control, manhole linings and coatings, closed circuit television (CCTV), bypass pumping and sectional CIPP lining. Also included will be the NASSCO Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP) and Inspector Training Certification Program (ITCP). The live demonstration area is the last stop in the Zone.
“The RehabZone has evolved each year with continuing improvements,” said Irv Gemora, NASSCO executive director and RehabZone coordinating chairman. “The demonstration area is the latest addition to the event, and we anticipate it will be well received.”
NASSCO is a national organization comprised of several hundred members representing rehabilitation industry manufacturers and suppliers, municipalities and utility districts, engineers, and contracting firms. Cooperating with NASSCO for the RehabZone are the American Society of Civil Engineers Trenchless Installation of Pipelines and Pipeline Infrastructure Systems technical committees, the Water Environment Federation’s Collection System Committee, and Underground Construction and Rehabilitation Technology magazines.
“Any time I comment about the RehabZone,” said Gemora, “I emphasize that it is made possible by the financial support of sponsors and the time and hard work of those who spend many hours planning each year’s event and staff the exhibit stations during show hours. No other event I know of is operated by a group that includes many business competitors who put aside their sales hats to present a commercial free educational program.”
