Interplastic Receives Governor’s Safety & Health Award
Interplastic’s Thermoset Resins Division, Fort Wright, KY, manufacturing plant recently achieved a significant safety milestone and was presented the Governor’s Safety & Health Award.
The Fort Wright plant employees exceeded one million man-hours worked without a lost-time injury in September of 2009. The Governor’s Award is presented in recognition of the facilities reaching over 250,000 man-hours without a lost-time accident or illness. It promotes greater awareness and commitment to excellence for workplace safety and health. Kentucky Secretary of Labor J.R. Gray attended a presentation at the Ft. Wright plant where he awarded the employees with their eighth consecutive Governor’s Safety and Health Award.
The Thermoset Resins Division produces and distributes unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester resins, gel coats and colorants for the composites and cast polymer industries.
Root Control Products from Sewer Sciences
A sister company to Duke’s Root Control, Sewer Sciences is a leading producer of innovative, effective solutions for the sewer root control industry. Utilizing cutting-edge technology and research methodology, Sewer Sciences has developed EPA-registered products that effectively control root growth without compromising wastewater treatment facilities, the environment and local communities.
Sewer Sciences has also consulted with the U.S. EPA to create training manuals for instructing and certifying root-control applicators in proper application techniques.

Through primary-source documentation, this Web site addresses recent U.S. EPA actions that impact the use of root-control chemicals.
New Appointment, New Contracts at Insituform
Insituform Technologies Inc. appointed M. Richard Smith to its board of directors. Smith brings more than 30 years of management experience in the energy services industry to the company board. Smith will also serve on the board’s Strategic Planning and Corporate Governance & Nominating Committees.
Smith currently serves as a consultant to, and member of, the board of directors of Sithe Global Power LLC, an international power development company, and as the chairman of the board of Evergreen Energy Inc., a coal technology and environmental solutions company. Most recently, Smith served as the senior vice president of Bechtel Corporation and president of its Fossil Power business unit from October 2005 until his retirement in December 2007.
Smith also previously served as the chief executive officer of Intergen NV, a global power generation firm, and in various management positions at affiliated Bechtel companies and at PG&E Corporation.
Insituform also is in the news for being awarded two contracts with a combined value of $15.9 million for the rehabilitationof sewer pipes in Atlanta, GA, neighborhoods as part of the city’s Clean Water Atlanta Program.
The project will rehabilitate over 65,000 feet of small diameter sanitary sewers across the Atlanta area. Work on this project began in January and will take approximately 15 months to complete. As the general contractor on this project, Insituform will utilize local minority contractors for various aspects of this project.
