Hawaii Updates Its Infrastructure

Honolulu, HI, is making substantial progress on a three-year construction project that includes replacement of the Beachwalk Force Main. The contractor is the Frank Coluccio Construction Company office in Kapolei. Work began following a traditional christening ceremony on Oct. 7, in Honolulu.
During the event, the new micro tunnel-boring machine was christened by Patricia Coluccio, the matriarch of the contractor’s family with her sons Franco and Nick Coluccio present. The MTBM was named after her. Rev. William Kaina gave the blessing. The project tunneling operations will commence in November and continue until 2012.
Hobas Pipe is supplying 4,400 linear feet of nominal 78-inch centrifugally cast, fiberglass-reinforced, polymer mortar (CCFRPM) pressure jacking pipes per ASTM D3754 for the project. Hobas pipe has supplied open-cut, sliplining and microtunneling pipe to projects in Hawaii since 1995. Currently there are three concurrent projects under construction using Hobas CCFRPM pipes on O’ahu Island.
