Near-Record Attendance Marks PCCA 66th Annual Convention

In the warm confines of Key Largo, FL, the Power & Communication Contractors Association recently held a highly successful 2011 annual convention.

A crowd of more than 300 gathered at the resort community bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Outgoing PCCA President Kevin Mason, ElectriCom, proclaimed that “excluding the Disney convention, this is the largest turnout since 2001.”

The convention opened with another PCCA Young Construction Professionals presentation. The YCP has been a very effective program over the past few years and has benefitted many younger PCCA company personnel in their industry development.

The opening session featured Dave Barry, the popular humor columnist and best-selling author. The Pulitzer-prize winning commentator entertained the audience with stories of Miami and politics.

The next day featured the Annual Prayer Breakfast followed by the always popular Construction Industry Roundtable. Frank discussions about the market left most attendees believing the industry will be strong for the foreseeable future. In the afternoon, it was time for a team-building activity on the beach with the boat-building challenge.

That evening, the annual silent auction and reception followed by dinner and live auction met with great success as well, raising $136,905. All proceeds go directly to building programs and services for PCCA members.

The following day included the annual associate’s exhibit and breakfast followed by an educational session on “How To Compete and Comply In A Davis-Bacon Market.” That afternoon, the PCCA Golf Tournament included near record participation.

More education
On the final day of the convention, more educational sessions provided vital information to attendees. Topics included “Interim Tier 4 Emissions Regulations” and a Department of Labor Davis-Bacon Market Panel.

The convention’s closing activity was a Beach Party. Mason welcomed new president Larry Libla and thanked the association for the opportunity to serve as board president. He also thanked “my friend Herb Fluharty who was there for my years as a board member and has done a lot for the industry.”
