United Rentals appoints new COO, expands specialty branch network

United Rentals Inc. has named Matt Flannery as executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective with the closing of the company’s merger with RSC Holdings Inc. announced in April. He previously served as executive vice president of operations and sales, and leads the RSC integration process.

Flannery brings more than two decades of industry experience to his new position, including seven years with McClinch Equipment Corp., an acquisition of United Rentals in 1998. From 1998 to 2008, he held management positions with United Rentals at the branch, district, regional and national levels, including senior vice president of operations.

The company also announced the expansion of its specialty branch network with the opening of two locations in the northeastern United States and one in Texas.

United Rentals’ new branch in Manchester, NH, is part of United Rentals Trench Safety, the largest network of its kind in North America. New locations in Elmwood Park, NJ, and Corpus Christi, TX, focus on temporary power and HVAC equipment for the construction and industrial markets. United Rentals Power & HVAC is a growing presence within the company’s scope of equipment rental expertise.

Paul McDonnell, senior vice president of operations, trench safety, power and HVAC, said, “We are continuing to invest in our position as the leading single-source provider of equipment rental solutions for construction, industrial and government applications. The needs of our customers often encompass trench safety, temporary power and climate control services, as well as general construction equipment. We have the ability to address these needs at any jobsite in North America.”
