Rig Source Features New Terramac RT9 At UCT

Rig Source reported strong positive feedback from attendees of the 2013 Underground Construction Technology International Conference & Exhibition (UCT). It was the first time Rig Source showed its new Terramac RT9, the only North American-made rubber track carrier at UCT. The annual event, which unites utility owners, engineers, contractors, and manufacturers directly associated with development and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure, was held Jan. 29-31, 2013 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX.

Matt Slater, Rig Source director of sales, said, “UCT was great opportunity to meet with people who are very familiar with crawler carriers. We were able to communicate our goal of supporting our customers’ specific needs, as well as providing customization options they require.”

Slater said, judging from Rig Source visitors’ responses, “They seemed to recognize right away that the Terramac RT9 unit is a quality product designed to allow easier maintenance and dependability in the field.”

Two of the features that drew the most questions were the rubber tracks and the engine. Having rubber tracks on such a rugged vehicle allows less damage to travel surfaces. Slater was able to reassure interested attendees that new developments in materials and construction mean rubber tracks hold up well and are widely preferred over steel today for the RT9’s range of applications.

The Cummins engine meant that parts for the RT9 were readily available throughout the U.S. and Canada. The tilt hood granted ease of access for servicing.

Slater said he was impressed with the diversity of visitors, which included representatives from private and public entities. Many companies interested in the Terramac were looking at expanding their rental fleets, making them available to utility contractors. “We sold the show unit on the spot, delivering it to its new owner immediately following the show.”

The Terramac RT9 is the largest mid-sized rubber track carrier that permits transportation without special oversize permitting. A few visitors to the Rig Source booth asked Slater if larger units would be available. Slater said Rig Source will be launching a larger version, with no release date yet set, saying “Stay tuned for more Terramac!”
