Volvo Construction Equipment has upgraded its zero-emissions, low-noise L20 and L25 Electric compact wheel loaders to another level of productivity, versatility and operator comfort.

Updates include increasing the maximum speed to 12.4 mph (20km/h), the option to fit a parallel linkage that delivers high breakout torque in various applications, additional operator-friendly features, and improved charging.

For operator comfort, noise levels were lowered inside and outside the cab, thanks to a new hydraulic pump and the relocation of the main control valve from the cab to the front frame.

A new electric parking brake improves uptime with hill-hold functionality, a convenient automatic feature for operators working on inclines or rough terrain. Because the disc brake in the former model is replaced by a spring-applied and hydraulic-released wet-disc brake, related maintenance requirements are removed, helping to cut costs and machine downtime.

The time it takes to achieve a full charge from zero is only six hours with the 6-kW onboard charger, if used with a 240V socket or level 2 public charging station. Speedier charging is available with optional off-board DC fast chargers at 11.5 kW or 17.3 kW.

Norton

Saint-Gobain Abrasives, one of the world’s largest abrasives manufacturers, introduced Norton Vortex Rapid Prep Non-Woven Flap Discs.

An upgrade from traditional Rapid Prep single-layer hook and loop discs, the new ones feature special three-dimensional, non-woven abrasive layers. This design generates impressive performance results, including more than 50-percent higher material removal rates (MRR).

It also ensures uniform finishing, with a consistently low surface finish value, and provides forgiveness and reduced vibration on uneven surfaces for maximum ergonomic use.

In addition, multiple layers of surface conditioning material provide added life, fewer disc changes for better efficiency, and reduced vibration. So, the discs last longer and produce significantly increased cutting rates and smear-free finishes, simultaneously.

Norton’s patented Vortex agglomerated aluminum oxide grain technology delivers the cutting power of a coarser grit, while producing a finer finish in one abrasives disc solution. Norton proprietary Clean Bond resin technology guarantees smear-free finishes, even on high nickel content alloys, and reduced loading when cutting aluminum and other softer metals.

Discs are available in 41/2- by 7/8-inch and 41/2- x 5/8-inch, 11 sizes, in fine, very fine, medium, and coarse grits. They are ideal for light blending, stripping, edge breaking and surface prep applications in key industries such as metal fabrication and welding, aerospace, transportation, energy and construction.

Felling Trailers

Wide-set heavy construction equipment, like mid-size crawler excavators and dozers, can be challenging for any seasoned equipment hauler. It’s typically oversized, particularly heavy, and unique in shape (length, height, and width).

Felling Trailers Inc. introduced Low Pro Heavy Duty (LP HD) models, to its deck-over tag line, for transporting such loads.

“As equipment continues to get bigger and wider, how weight is distributed can make or break a trailer,” said Nathan Uphus, sales manager at Felling Trailers.

“Our LP HD series tag has been designed and engineered to accommodate equipment that has an 8- to 8.5-foot-wide track gauge (center to center of tracks), which will concentrate the machine’s weight directly over the side rails, typically 10 feet-plus overall width machines.”

Two models are currently available:

  • FT-50-3 LP HD triple-axle, 25-ton, with 24-, 26-, 28- and 30-foot deck lengths
  • FT-60-4 LP HD quad-axle, 30-ton (4-axle legality varies by state/providence); 28-, 30-, and 32-foot deck lengths.

The company also released design modifications to the X-Force hydraulic detachable gooseneck that enhance operator usability, while reducing production time and materials.

More often than not, an operator must offload/load equipment on less-than-ideal terrain that is soft or uneven. Considering this scenario, the gooseneck stirrups were designed to provide an additional 1-3/4-inch ground clearance, making the hookup/disconnect process easier.

Another feature simplifies the operation process. As the deck is raised into position, setting the trailer’s ride height, the load blocks auto-ratchet into position. An interlocking connection between the load block and the secondary lock mechanism synchronizes
the action of the two, eliminating the independent lock handle.

Lastly, the trough of the gooseneck was reconfigured for optimal performance of the lock pin, allowing dirt and debris to fall away more efficiently and substantially reducing buildup over time.

Solid and reliable, Felling’s X-Force HDG series, with 35- to 60-ton load capacities, continues to offer a broad selection of options and features to ensure the trailer is built to the spec that owners/operators need for their applications.

Family-owned and -operated Felling Trailers has been known as an innovative solutions provider in the transport industry for more than 45 years.

DEVELON

DEVELON (formerly Doosan Infracore) evolved its compact equipment offering with a stronger machine. The new DX89R-7 mini excavator replaces the DX85R-3, enhancing many of its predecessor’s features.

Powered by a Tier 4-compliant D24 diesel engine, the DX89R-7 provides increased productivity, and its auxiliary hydraulic flow remains readily available for using hydraulic-powered attachments.

Increased operating weight and a new counterweight design make the machine more stable, for greater lifting capacity – especially when used to lift and place objects such as pipes, boulders or hardscape materials. The greater weight also makes DX89R-7’s traction force higher, meaning customers can push material more efficiently with a dozer blade.

Providing more flexibility, a thumb switch on the left joystick controls the excavator’s boom swing. This can be helpful in a confined space when the operator needs to dig next to an existing structure or obstacle.

DEVELON’s newest mini excavator introduces all-new features for operator comfort and easy access to everyday maintenance items like filters, fluids, air cleaner and battery.

“The new 9-metric-ton DX89R-7 excavator is a bridge between our smaller mini excavators and our crawler excavators,” said Thomas Lee, director of product management at DEVELON. “It gives our customers the flexibility of a mini excavator with more power and dig depth they may need, without moving up to a larger machine.”
