Gas Leak Prompts Evacuations in Downtown Kalamazoo
8/13/2019
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Authorities evacuated buildings along a two-block stretch of downtown Kalamazoo after construction workers damaged a natural gas line.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the gas leaking Monday afternoon from the underground pipe reached sewer lines, prompting the evacuations of nearby businesses and residences.
A Consumers Energy crew was working to seal the leak so that people could be allowed back inside the buildings.
