Hope Gas expands West Virginia reach with Consumers Gas Utility purchase

(UI) — Hope Gas (Hope) has finalized an agreement to acquire Consumers Gas Utility Company in West Virginia, pending approval from the state's Public Service Commission.

This acquisition represents the sixth such move by Hope in the state in just over a year, following earlier acquisitions of Equitrans Gathering, Hometown Gas, Peoples Gas WV, and Southern Public Gas Company. Further acquisitions of Standard Gas Company and Bazzle Gas Company are expected to close in mid-2024.

The addition of Consumers Gas will bring approximately 8,500 new customers across multiple counties, expanding Hope's service territory to 38 counties in total. This acquisition also marks Hope's entry into Wayne County, WV, for the first time.

Morgan O’Brien, CEO of Hope Gas, expressed optimism about the expansion, emphasizing the company's commitment to West Virginia's economic development and its belief in the state's future. Since its acquisition from Dominion Energy in September 2022, Hope Gas has been dedicated to bolstering the state's economy by creating jobs and investing in pipeline infrastructure. The company has also strengthened partnerships with local gas producers to support their businesses.

As the sole utility company headquartered in West Virginia, Hope Gas is focused on delivering high-quality service to its customers and contributing to the state's growth. With this latest acquisition, Hope Gas will serve over 140,000 homes and businesses across the state, further solidifying its position as a leading natural gas distribution company in West Virginia.

The sale is contingent upon approval from the Public Service Commission of West Virginia and other customary closing conditions.
